Dallas, Texas – A deadly attack on the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas, Texas, has resulted in the deaths of two ICE detainees and the suspected gunman. The incident, which took place on Wednesday morning, also left a third person injured.
The Incident and Casualties
The shooting began shortly before 7:00 a.m. CT at the ICE facility on North Stemmons Freeway. According to the Dallas Police Department, a suspect opened fire on the government building from an elevated position on a nearby structure. Police sources indicate the shooting may have occurred as detainees were being loaded or unloaded from a bus.
The casualties were identified by an ICE spokesperson and multiple police sources as:
- Two ICE detainees confirmed deceased. One victim died at the scene, and a second died later.
- One person injured and hospitalized. The person’s condition was not immediately disclosed, though some initial reports indicated a critical state.
- No ICE officers or federal agents were among the casualties.
The Shooter and Investigation
Responding law enforcement officers, including federal agents, found the suspected shooter dead on the roof of an adjacent building. Authorities confirmed the gunman died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The shooter was identified by police sources as a white male armed with a rifle.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the “multiple injuries and fatalities” on U.S. soil and stated that the motive remains unknown. She also noted the incident highlights what she called an “unprecedented violence” directed against ICE law enforcement.
Vice President JD Vance also issued a statement, condemning the “obsessive attack on law enforcement” and offering condolences to the victims’ families.

The attack on the Dallas facility, which houses both the ICE Field Office and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), immediately reignited national discussions on security at federal facilities and the intense political climate surrounding U.S. immigration policy.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the shooter and the investigation into a possible motive is ongoing. The incident follows a reported bomb threat at the same Dallas ICE facility just last month, signaling ongoing security concerns for the agency.
