The tenth day of the 2026 Winter Olympics (Monday, Feb 16) was defined by the brutal extremes of the Italian Alps. Heavy snowfall in Bormio created one of the most chaotic Alpine races in history, while in Milan, the hockey rinks saw a clinical display of dominance.
The Highlight Moments
1. Swiss Perfection vs. Norwegian Heartbreak
In the Men’s Slalom, Switzerland’s Loïc Meillard mastered the blizzard to take gold. However, the story of the day was Atle Lie McGrath. The Norwegian led after the first run and looked certain for gold until he straddled a gate in his final descent. The image of McGrath sitting in the snow as his Olympic dream vanished became the defining photo of the day. It also marked the final Olympic appearance of British legend Dave Ryding, who finished 17th.
2. American Ice Wall
Team USA Women’s Hockey extended their incredible shutout streak to over 330 minutes, dismantling Sweden 5-0 in the semi finals. Cayla Barnes and Taylor Heise led the scoring, securing a spot in Thursday’s gold medal game where they will face the winner of Canada vs. Switzerland.
3. Speed Skating History
The Netherlands’ Xandra Velzeboer proved she is the queen of short track, winning the Women’s 1,000m to claim her second gold of these Games. Canada’s Courtney Sarault took a hard earned silver, keeping Canada within striking distance of the top 3 on the medal table.
Medal Table: After Day 10
Norway maintains a slim lead, but the host nation, Italy, has officially broken its all-time record for total medals at a single Winter Games.

Day 11 Preview: What to Watch (Feb 17)
The “Gu” Show Returns
All eyes return to Livigno for the Women’s Freeski Big Air Final. Defending champion Eileen Gu (China) qualified in second place despite a scary crash in her second qualifying run. She faces stiff competition from Canada’s Megan Oldham, who topped the qualifiers, and Great Britain’s Kirsty Muir.
Men’s Super Team Ski Jumping
History will be made in Predazzo with the Olympic debut of the Men’s Super Team event. This new, high speed two man format is expected to favor the technical precision of the German and Austrian squads.
The Hockey “Clash of Titans”
The second Women’s Hockey semi final takes place today: Canada vs. Switzerland. While Canada is the heavy favorite, the Swiss have shown they can frustrate top tier offenses with their disciplined zone defense.
